What this coffee feels like
Morning sunlight pools across the wooden table, catching on velvet and peel, turning everything honey warm. A gentle, nutty softness rises in slow, spiraled swirls, like comfort taking shape, while bright slices of orange glow around it, small sparks of playfulness scattered in the calm. The moment feels unhurried, a quiet smile you can almost hold, a little delight lingering just long enough to taste.
This coffee's story
There is Latin America, and then there is Brazil. Coffee in Brazil follows its own path, shaped by the country’s massive production scale, diverse regions, and the collaboration of countless farmers and exporters. These factors combine to create a kaleidoscope of qualities unique to Brazil. The Volcafe Way program was introduced in the country less than two years ago, and since then more than 500 farms have joined, demonstrating the value and benefits farmers see in the program.
Most Brazilian coffees for Volcafe Select are sourced from Mogiana and Cerrado. Mogiana borders Sul de Minas to the east and is known for exceptionally sweet lots. Cerrado coffees, by contrast, tend to be fine, clean, and full-bodied. As the newest coffee-growing region in Minas Gerais, with a history of only four decades, Cerrado has rapidly gained recognition as a reliable producer of both high-quality and commercial coffees.
The Cemorrado Trio is a curated collection within the broader range of fine Brazilian lots, created exclusively for Volcafe Select. The trio comprises three distinctive qualities, each offering a unique and appealing flavour profile. Versatile and dependable, the coffees serve as an ideal foundation for a variety of blends. Their profiles are defined as:
Sweet, presenting honey and ripe fruit sweetness;
Hazel, smooth-bodied with notes of hazelnut and milk chocolate; and
Chocolate, featuring an intense chocolate flavour and full body.
These three Cemorrado qualities are sourced from both the Cerrado and Alta Mogiana regions, and the combined origins are reflected in the name Cemorrado.
Cerrado is the first coffee-producing area in the world to receive a “Designated Origin” label, similar to classifications seen in wine. The region benefits from an ideal combination of altitude, flat terrain, and a favourable climate with clearly defined seasons. Hot, wet summers encourage intense flowering and uniform cherry ripening, while dry, warm winters with low humidity help preserve intrinsic coffee quality during harvest and processing.
Alta Mogiana takes its name from the railway company that once played a significant role in the region’s coffee expansion. With its optimal mix of altitude, fertile soils, and stable climate, Alta Mogiana provides excellent conditions for coffee cultivation. Farmers in this area are known for their effective pruning strategies, making them some of the most productive in Brazil.
Season after season, all three qualities are carefully selected to ensure consistent flavour profiles and long-term availability. The Cemorrado Trio delivers reliability and distinction in every harvest.
